Apply for care assistant jobs
Care work is an immensely rewarding career. Varied in terms of both the role and customers being cared for, care assistants are of genuine daily support to the vulnerable of all ages and conditions, assisting customers in their own homes and allowing them to live as independently as possible in surroundings and spaces they know and love.
Help at Home is hiring new care assistants as we grow, offering a great chance to be a part of a fantastic company and supported by an excellent management team as we deliver service of excellence to people in need in communities across Leicestershire.
What does it take to be a care assistant?
For those who are considering a role in the care sector, Help at Home looks for applicants and existing carers with a genuine want to help those less fortunate. We value people who are hard working, diligent, unafraid to get their hands dirty yet personable and warm as well. While it might not be the highest paying role, care work is vocational in nature and depends on the carer’s innate desire to help; people who derive a sense of accomplishment in helping others who can’t help themselves as much any more. Care work takes a gregarious personality, initiative and excellent communication skills too and, from time to time, the ability to deal with a customer who’s passed on in your care. While that’s inevitably sad, we still require our care assistants to keep helping their other customers.
Of its many benefits, care assistant roles often offer flexible working hours, allowing for a better work/life balance. This will also mean, however, that our carers will have to have great time management skills.
What does a care assistant do?
A varied role in general, care assistants have a number of tasks and responsibilities, keeping the job interesting by calling for people with a range of skills. This includes but isn’t limited to:
- Promote independence, helping customers to live as self-sufficient a life as possible
- General day-to-day help around the home, like chores and light cooking
- Personal care including washing, bathing & using the toilet
- Administering medicines
- Accompaniment on social visits, outings & day trips
- Companionship and a friendly face
Depending on the locations you’ll be required to work, some customers may live in areas that require a driver’s licence/access to a vehicle or public transport. Please check when applying for roles or speak to our recruitment team.
